Born in Knottingley in 1965, Kevin started playing cornet and guitar simultaneously at the age of about 7. After joining the school band he moved on to flugelhorn, and not long after, joined the Ackton Hall Colliery band in Featherstone. In 1984 he became conductor of this band for a brief period, before the band merged with the newly formed Sharlston Colliery Band, where he became principal cornet and assistant conductor.

In 1992, Kevin moved to the Aceprint Gawthorpe band, back on flugel and deputy conductor to Alan Morrison, from whom he learned the majority of his conducting trade. When this band folded in 1995, Kevin moved to the Wallace Arnold Rothwell Band on cornet. In 1997, he decided to take up conducting full time, and was appointed Musical Director of the Knottingley Silver Band, where he enjoyed a successful 9 years, taking the band all the way to the championship section.

In 2006, Kevin and the band went their separate ways, and he was appointed Musical Director of the Drighlington Band, enjoying a three year spell which resulted in the band regaining its championship section status. In 2009, Kevin took a break from banding, but returned as Musical Director of the Crofton Silver Band in 2011, where he remained until being re-appointed as Musical Director once again, of the Knottingley Silver Band in December 2014.

Kevin is a guitarist and guitar teacher as well as a conductor, and lives with his three children in Crofton, near Wakefield.
