Players players players! 09-12-16

The band would like to welcome Sonja Westwood and Bill Lyons who have joined our back row cornet team. A return for both of them having previously played with the band, though not necessarily in the same seats or instruments! Enjoy your stay guys. First round in the club is on you!

Holmfirth Contest 07-11-16

The band competed in the Holmfirth Contest over the weekend. A disappointing 10th place was achieved, however the piece we played was a tough one where we never fully got to grips with it. We have gained more contesting experience though and were happy to support a local event. Our soloists as usual though, did us proud as did our friends who helped out. Thanks guys!

Carrying on the less than good news, Julia, our repiano cornet player, is sadly leaving the band after numerous years of happy playing with us. Don't be a stranger Julia!

Finally onto some good news, after a decade of not playing, Paul Lyons has returned to the band on front row cornet. Welcome back Paul!

The 2016 Areas 06-03-16

As most of you will know, the band competed in the Areas on Sunday at St. George's Hall in Bradford. An early start all round but the band was still in fairly good spirit. A quick rehearsal at 8 got us all focused and ready for breakfast. Unfortunately for some of the band there was a distinct lack of bacon available so breakfast was a little tense. Percussionist Chris then pulled number 5 as our draw number. Excellent work!

The performance went very well with just the odd blip creeping in here and there. Overall the band came 6th which we all thought was a very respectable result after our return to the 1st section earlier this year. We have had to move some stands in the bandroom to accommodate Kevin's 'angular' conducting!

A decent start to our 1st section return and we hope to continue in the same vein!

It's alive! 22-10-15

After much faffing about some work there is now a working Meet the Band page. Some pictures are still missing and some need updating but nearly everyone is there. Yay!

Entertaining Elland 18-10-15

Over the weekend the band competed in the Pogson Bray Entertainment Contest. Having rehearsed all the music down to the finest detail we were all quietly confident. Drawn early afternoon, the band gave a decent performance with only a couple of minor slip ups creeping in. Though these were largely unnoticed by Mr Adjudicator! Overall we were placed 3rd which was a decent result, obviously not the one everyone wanted but still pretty good. We also took home the Best March trophy with our rendition of The Australasian. So overall a pretty good result which meant we also got some nice prize money. We didn't take the Best Soloist prize on this occasion even though Richard our Solo Trombone player sailed through it with ease as he usually does. Better luck next time Richard!

A Wet Weekend in Brighouse 05-07-15

The Band competed in the Brighouse March Contest on Saturday. Whilst the day started off quite well, the torrential downpour wasn't welcome! However, the band played through it and finished as best 2nd Section Band and 4th overall. Not bad going to say the least! Photos are available to have a good chuckle at look through here.

Changes, changes, changes! 27-06-15

So most of you have probably noticed that we have just debuted our new website. With it come new pictures and more updates! It is very early on in development at the minute so a lot of the old content is missing but it will reappear slowly over the coming weeks. If anyone has any pictures etc of the band, please feel free to send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we'll get them on the site.

Apart from the new site we also have new members! We now have a full trombone section for the first time in a long time and enough basses (3 of each!) to keep the local club in business all by themselves. Pictures and names will be appearing on the Meet the Band page soon.

Fantastic Day at St George's Hall! 08-03-15

KSB had a great day at the Yorkshire areas yesterday, coming away with 4th prize
in the second section and will be promoted to first section next year! Although a
little sad not to have come away with a trophy, the band have thoroughly enjoyed
rehearsing the test piece, which this year was Variations on Maccabeus (with a
number of members of the band still whistling it in the pub many hours later!)

A special mention of thanks to Denise and David Dransfield, Liz Stimpson and Katie Newton for all their help and fantastic playing!

The band are also delighted to give a very warm welcome to Steph Hodgson and Roy Thackrah who join the band on cornet and Eb bass respectively. Steph returns having played for the band previously and joins dad, Bill, and Roy has come out of retirement and join daughter-in-law, Sam. A very big KSB welcome to you both!

To see some pictures of the day, head to our Facebook page (photos to be added to the website soon!)

Belcher is Back! 09-12-14

Knottingley Silver Band are delighted to announce that Kevin Belcher has returned to the band as their new Musical Director following the departure of Owen Wedgwood last month.

Kevin led the band to success in his previous spell, taking them from the third to championship section in just a few years and taking several titles in the process. The band are obviously hoping that similar success will follow this time!

Steve Clayton, principal cornet and chairman said "It's great to have Kevin back with us. He has a proven track record and great experience so we are all very excited and optimistic about his return."

Kevin leaves Crofton Band to join Knottingley after three years at the helm but will lead them at Butlins in January 2015.
